2. Phonetics (shiksha)
3. Meter (chandas)
4. Etymology (nirukta)
5. Grammar (vyakarana)
6. Astronomy (jyotishya)
The efficacy of the rituals, depended upon the exactness with which the mantra was chanted.
Accordingly, four of the six vedic sciences described above are concerned with linguistic issues(2,3,4&5).
Linguistic analysis was the subject in which ancient Indian civilization was more advanced than any other.
